Chapter 1221  Karma and Fate

"So… what you're telling me is that you want to kill her off just because?" asked Valyr for clarification, finding it slightly absurd that Riekan still thought about proceeding with his original idea without even having any solid reason as to why she should be killed.

Sure, from Riekan's perspective, she may have been the cause of the velvet faction's existence. She may have also caused the Caemelio clan to fracture into the nine factions both he and Riekan knew today.

And from the Amerhearst clan's perspective, she may have possibly been the culprit that caused Jonathan Amerhearst's untimely death.

But was that really a good enough reason to warrant an unconditional kill order on her?

What if there was actually a valid reason behind her actions in the Amerhearst clan?

What if the ultimate purpose behind the founding of the eight other factions was actually for the betterment of the Caemelio clan?

"…Well, in your case, you could see it as me wanting her gone just because I have the power and authority to do so." While Valyr was still trying to rationalize Riekan's train of thought into something he could make sense of, the man answered his question with a look of firm conviction.

"However, as someone who's gone past the peak of mortality to become a Myth-level being, I've become somewhat acquainted with some mysterious forces that even I would have a hard time explaining even a small portion of their existence to you."

"But to make a long story short, these mysterious forces are the basis behind my reason for having her gone," said the man with a calm tone. "From what they've told me, as long as she remains within the clan, it would only be a matter of time before the Caemelio clan disappears from the world's existence."

Though Valyr was still a bit confused as to what the man meant by mysterious forces, he was at least relieved to hear that there was some logic applied to his reasoning.

Slightly curious as to what mysterious forces Riekan was talking about, the young man went ahead and rummaged through his treasure trove of memories as he continued with their conversation.

"Sure, let's say these mysterious forces you've mentioned are correct in their predictions," said Valyr to Riekan with a slight nod. "Her continuing to stay within the clan would eventually bring it to ruin."

"But is it really necessary to kill her? Wouldn't expelling and banning her from the clan allow you to achieve the same thing?"

"It would." Riekan nodded in agreement, which made Valyr immediately wonder why the man didn't settle for that method to solve the problem instead.

"But…" Fortunately, the man expounded on that answer not long after, making it seem as if he had read the thoughts that were going on in the young man's mind. "What's stopping her from having a different clan fall under a similar fate?"

At those words, Riekan decided to give Valyr a better idea of the thoughts going on in his mind, trying his best to explain the mysterious forces that he mentioned in a way that made sense. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Thankfully, it did not take long for the young man to understand what the man was trying to say, especially once he began to hear terms like 'inauspicious omens' and 'intangible threads and links' come out of Riekan's mouth.

'Karma and fate,' thought Valyr to himself, quickly finding the memories he had on the matter the moment he realized what Riekan's basis was.

'If the basis for Riekan's reason has something to do with that, then…'

'Even if it might seem nonsensical from an outsider's perspective, I guess it's only for the better that it should be done.'

Similar to how one would be able to separate their souls from their bodies once one ascended to the Myth level, one would also be able to sense the existence of karma and fate once one became a Myth.

However, unlike the ability to separate one's soul from one's body, the ability to sense karma and fate wasn't really guaranteed after becoming a Myth.

From what Valyr could recall, only one out of ten newly ascended Myths would awaken to this ability from the get-go. Not only that, but these newly ascended Myths would only barely be able to sense their existence.

Though, at some point, every Myth would gain this ability as they went through the ranks, considering how one's comprehension over those two concepts were more than crucial if one wanted to ascend past the Myth level.

Even more so if one wanted to ascend past the Divine level.

'In any case, since Riekan says she's an inauspicious omen, then that means the amount of negative karma she has is far beyond what any normal person could achieve in their life,' thought Valyr to himself.

'Not only that, but it's an amount that's impossible to offset, even if she decides to just do charitable acts from now on.'

'…How did she even accrue that much negative karma anyway?'

Shaking his head to forget the question that surfaced in his mind just now, Valyr eventually looked back at Riekan, his understanding of the entire situation now far greater than ever before.

With that, it was no surprise that the young man soon agreed to his request, causing Riekan to briefly let out a loud cackle as he looked back at the man with a toothy grin.

Inwardly letting out a sigh of relief at the thought that he'd conjured a soundproof barrier around them way before reaching this point, Valyr went ahead and asked Riekan for more information on Cynthia, specifically the strength she wielded.

Then again, such a question was mostly for the sake of keeping up appearances, with Braum having even included that piece of information in the message he sent the young man a few minutes earlier.

But of course, there's still a limit to what an informant like Braum could obtain, with Riekan informing Valyr of certain aspects and quirks Cynthia had that the informant hadn't included.

'It does make sense, though,' thought the young man to himself as he realized this. 'As a Myth, Riekan is naturally able to obtain far more information than him.'

'…Given enough time, that is.'

Eventually, after going over Cynthia's individual strength, the two then went over the possible obstacles that might hinder Valyr, such as the people that might be with her, or the place that she might head to around a certain time.

"So…" Feeling like he'd obtained all of the information he needed for the man's request, Valyr went ahead and asked the most essential question. "When do you want me to make a move?"

"Later tonight? Early tomorrow? Or do you want me to do it a few days from now?"

"Now," replied Riekan, his expression serious.

"…Now?"

"Yeah, now."

"…"

"If you could also do it without leaving any traces, that would be great."
