Chapter 234: Apology and Return [4]

Amon's eyes twitched, finally regaining consciousness.
They weakly fluttered open before he instantly squinted again with irritation as the golden lights from the ceiling right above him attacked him instantly.
The groggy haziness of waking up hit him hard, urging him to go back to sleep but he resisted it.
Rather, to his surprise and happiness, he was feeling quite refreshed, for the first time ever since that incident occurred.
He didn't feel as if his bones could break at any moment nor did it feel that his brain could explode in the next second.
Amon felt...
At peace. For the first time, he appreciated it, even if it was going to be a short while.
The warm and cozy feeling of the place also added to the relaxed feeling. It made him feel at home and in safety.
Finally adjusting his eyes, he opened them, looking at the office-like tiled ceiling above, with circular golden lights embedded at different corners and spaces, spaced out evenly.
The office-like architecture triggered a rush of memories in him, replaying through his brain quickly.
He was seeing those souls and ghosts...
Then he had gotten out of the graveyard, feeling like he would faint at any moment.
Knowing the only person who was the closest to him and would understand the situation, he had headed to this office, hoping to find her here.
And the last thing he was before fainting was her unblemished face, etched with concern, staring wide-eyed at him.
As he came back to the present, he quickly tried to get up to look around.
A groan escaped from his lips as he tried to force himself up, ignoring the pain in his torso.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
But as he tried to do so, a gloved hand quickly entered his vision from the side, placing itself on his chest.
And with a light push, he was forced back to lie down on the sofa, unable to resist.
At the same time, a soft, charming voice came from his side as well, soothing his ears-one that he hadn't heard in a long time.
"Lay down, you haven't recovered enough to move yet," Amelia said, her voice trying to remain neutral but laced with concern.
Amon released a small sigh, not retorting to her words.
For some seconds, a heavy silence descended between the two, as the warm silence in the room permeated the surroundings.
It was to be expected.
Amon wanted to talk so badly to her but he didn't know the proper way to start the
conversation.
How would he? He needed to explain his disappearance, what happened to Arthur, and everything.
It was too jumbled up in his head.
But to his surprise and fortunately, Amelia was quick to notice his struggle even though he had a blank expression on his face and intervened.
"It's okay. I understand. You don't have to explain anything."
A wave of surprise passed through Amon's body, making him blurt out.
"Huh?"
He turned his face for the first time since waking up, his eyes landing on Amelia's face.
And his eyes widened from shock at the same time.
Amelia's eyes were glistening with tears, that threatened to drip down.
Her long winish red hair were untied, in a messy hairstyle now that one would never see on her.
Her eyes-even though concealed pretty well- had large and dark circles and bags under them, one that could never escape Amon's attention because of his [Blood] manipulation element.
It was evident that she had been exhausted to the brim. If not, even more than Amon.
Her previous beauty was nowhere to be seen in this tired-out girl, which made Amon realize how selfish he had been.
In his quest to handle and blame himself for everything, he had forgotten that he wasn't the only one being affected by such incidents and matters.
Amelia was just as, if not more, burdened and tired out right now.
And why shouldn't she be? Amon had forgotten that her father had been taken away suddenly for a crime that had no lead but to only him.
Her friends had been attacked and the only clue to her father had also disappeared.
Athena, if Amon's suspicion was right, must have also disappeared for Arthur, which left Amelia alone.
But despite being left alone, she was not spared a moment of rest, being thrown all kinds of responsibilities at the same time.
Yet, not once had she faltered and remained strong, which was something Amon clearly saw when he stumbled in through that door.
With all those papers and documents on her desk, it was clear that she was still working when he arrived in.
Not only that, but even though he just appeared in front of her, she had taken care of him and spared him from any questions about her father.
All of this made Amon realize just how dumb he was, to think that he was the only one going through this all.
Here, in front of him, was a girl standing strong just like him but Amon was trying to steer away from the questions.
Gritting his teeth and staring down in shame, Amon felt a deep urge to slap himself and die by burying himself in the ground.
"I-" Amelia tried to speak again and hide the tears but was caught off guard as Amon got up from the sofa again, ignoring the pain.
There was not much distance between the two and Amon was quickly able to reach her in a
leap.
And in the next moment, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close into a warm, apologizing hug.
"I'm sorry." Were the first two words he told her when he wrapped her in a hug.
Amelia was taken by surprise, her eyes widening as she found herself unable to respond.
"I'm sorry for being unable to do anything and save Arthur that day, escaping the blame for what happened. I'm sorry for disappearing without any answers and clues to you, to everyone, making you worry for me."
He said, his hands patting her back as she remained silent, his voice coated in a genuine
sorrowful tone.
