The Substitute Female Supporting Character Sees the Bullet Screen

Chapter 40

Nie Yinzhi's forehead pressed against Gu Jiang's chest, and she could clearly hear the thumping of his heart. His palm, holding hers, was cool, but the spiritual energy outside the cloud ship was becoming increasingly dense. The flowing clouds dissipated continuously, but more spiritual mist surged forth, condensing into soft clouds that blocked out the starlight.

"I know you like me," Nie Yinzhi said.

Gu Jiang felt the dampness seeping through his clothes and took half a step back, lifting her face with his hand. "Nie Yinzhi, why are you so quick to cry?"

Nie Yinzhi blinked through her sobs, and a tear dripped from her chin into his palm. Gu Jiang, feeling slightly irritated, lowered his head and bit her chin, licking the tears that kept gathering there.

He softened his tone. "Don't cry. Those old men who were suppressed for two thousand years were able to hold up the Ten Thousand Demons Cave. My demonic energy is entirely under my control, and this dissipation is nothing to me. It's not worth your tears."

Nie Yinzhi's eyes clouded with confusion for a moment. What he said made sense, but even so, his demonic energy was still slipping away.

"How can it not be a big deal? I'm not stupid; I can figure it out..."

Gu Jiang was bearing the weight of heaven's wrath while also enduring the burning of her blood within him. He could still resist the heavens and the righteous cultivators now, but if his demonic energy continued to wane and his strength dropped to a critical point, the balance would be broken. He would become like the other four Demon Ancestors, unable to control his own energy. He wouldn't even need to become too weak before many would seek his life.

"No one even knows if those Demon Ancestors are still alive. Maybe they've already turned into demonic energy and no longer exist."

Nie Yinzhi's mind was filled with chaotic thoughts, and her heart ached with each beat.

The person who caused her pain was now pinching her chin, kissing her face repeatedly. He had once only found her blood sweet, but now even her tears were alluring to him. Gu Jiang lowered his gaze to her chattering mouth for a moment before leaning down and capturing it with his own, delving inside.

"Are you even listening to me..." Nie Yinzhi was silenced against her will, her eyes widening in surprise. She was completely stunned.

Nie Yinzhi couldn't help but back away, her back hitting the railing of the ship, completely trapped by Gu Jiang's towering form. She clutched at his sleeves in panic, her mind blank. She could once again smell that cold, solemn fragrance.

This wasn't really a kiss from Gu Jiang; it was more like the last time when demonic energy had invaded her mouth and entangled her.

The person pressed against her body began to heat up again, and Nie Yinzhi felt her limbs go weak. Her half-closed eyes caught a glimpse of the thin spiritual mist rising from his body. Suddenly, she opened her eyes, snapping back to reality, and pushed against him with muffled protests.

As soon as she resisted, Gu Jiang pulled back, wiping his lips. It took a while for the intoxicated expression on his face to fade. The spiritual mist swirling around his collar and sleeves suddenly dissipated, moving outside the cloud ship and quickly forming continuous clouds.

Gu Jiang's eyes darkened, and he turned his head, sending a blade of wind from his sleeve toward the passage leading to the deck.

The wind blade clanged against cold iron with a sharp sound.

A figure swiftly dodged, flipping behind the side stairs and calling out, "Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. I was just taking a stroll after my practice."

Gu Jiang ignored him and turned back to scoop up Nie Yinzhi, disappearing from the spot.

The pressure lifted, and the hiding figure cautiously peeked out from behind the stairs, seeing that the deck was empty. He let out a sigh of relief, carefully stepping onto the deck and looking out at the clouds beyond the barrier.

Inside the room, a wisp of demonic energy appeared on the bed, dispersing to reveal the two of them. Nie Yinzhi, disoriented, sat on Gu Jiang's lap, still not fully aware of what was happening, when she was suddenly grabbed by the back of her head and pressed down.

Wait, were they going to kiss again?

Nie Yinzhi quickly raised her hand to cover his mouth, the kiss landing on her hand instead.

"What are you doing? Don't think you can distract me with your charm. Even if... even if you do this, I can still resist," Nie Yinzhi's voice was soft, her eyes still glistening from the previous kiss. She frowned, looking conflicted about what to do with him.

Gu Jiang's breath was hot against her palm. "Come and see for yourself."

"See... where?" Nie Yinzhi asked, and suddenly, her vision darkened.

A thunderclap followed, and she instinctively stepped back, only to be pulled into Gu Jiang's embrace. He whispered in her ear, "This is when I ascended to become a deity, and also when I fell into demonhood."

The sky was filled with rolling dark clouds, stretching endlessly. Countless massive lightning bolts struck down, torn apart by shadowy sword lights. This must have been near the end of the heavenly tribulation. After the earth-shattering lightning subsided, a beam of light tore through the sky.

Nie Yinzhi couldn't help but grip Gu Jiang's hand tightly. She watched as the figure in the air stepped into the light, and just as the figure was about to disappear, a sharp sword light suddenly erupted, slicing upward.

It severed his path to ascension.

Immediately after, lightning struck in torrents, connecting heaven and earth. Every breath brought countless bolts of lightning. The light was so blinding that it was hard to see anything clearly, but she could vaguely make out the figure in the air being torn apart by the tribulation lightning again and again, only to reform. Nie Yinzhi couldn't hear the sounds, but she could see the mountains and rivers collapsing, the land splitting. Even as a bystander, she was terrified by the sheer scale of it. "Is this the heavenly tribulation for ascension?"

Gu Jiang replied, "It's the heavenly retribution for falling into demonic ways."

Nie Yinzhi could feel the struggle between two forces. The rolling spiritual energy transformed into mist and snow amidst the thunder and lightning, forming flowers of spring and summer, then turning into yellow soil. The soil piled up into towering cliffs, capped with snow, which melted into rushing water.

These illusory scenes changed so quickly that they seemed like a mirage. Finally, the sword light tore through the tribulation clouds, shattering the illusions. The surging spiritual energy was all gathered and stripped from the heavens and earth, coming under the control of one person.

Nie Yinzhi saw the first wisp of demonic energy born in his palm, black and red intertwined around his fingers. "Blood Moon Shadow?"

"Mhm," Gu Jiang acknowledged the name now.

After that, Nie Yinzhi's consciousness fell into a thick darkness, as if submerged in water.

Perhaps sensing her thoughts, the dark red water stirred for a few moments, and a small island suddenly formed beneath her feet, lifting her above the surface. There was nothing around her, just a lake of ink-like liquid.

She cupped some of the liquid in her hands, and the demonic energy, condensed into water, slipped through her fingers. She was momentarily stunned before concluding, "Blood Moon Shadow, the so-called demonic energy, is actually the spiritual energy stripped from the heavens and earth?"

Gu Jiang agreed, "That's not wrong."

The first step in a cultivator's practice is to open the spiritual aperture, communicate with the heavens and earth, and draw in spiritual energy to refine the self. The spiritual energy in the meridians is transformed into one's own true essence, but at its root, it's still "spiritual energy." When a cultivator dies and their path ends, this energy returns to the heavens and earth.

But demonic energy is different. Stripped from the heavens and earth, it doesn't integrate with them, becoming an independent entity. It requires an intermediary like the Demon Sealing Mark to return to its essence. Nie Yinzhi's blood serves the same purpose as the Demon Sealing Mark.

No wonder demonic energy can be converted into spiritual energy. No wonder the Demon Ancestors are not accepted by the heavens and earth.

Nie Yinzhi pondered for a moment and asked, "So, if you've dissipated some demonic energy, can you strip more spiritual energy from the heavens and earth to replenish it?"

Her idea was so simple that it made Gu Jiang want to laugh. "Cultivators need to open their spiritual apertures, communicate with the heavens and earth, and draw in spiritual energy. Since I fell into demonhood, I am no longer accepted by the heavens and earth. I can't even draw in spiritual energy, so how could I strip it away?"

Gu Jiang's body contained an independent space, a small world unto itself, not connected to the outside.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

In this small world, it was like a furnace, with the Blood Moon Shadow lake surface shrouded in rising steam. This mist was no longer under Gu Jiang's control and could only be expelled from his body.

"You'll have to work harder to evaporate this lake," he said.

Nie Yinzhi: "..." She withdrew from Gu Jiang's little garden, at a loss for what to say.

【I get it now. Nie Yinzhi is basically the boiler operator, tasked with melting the demon and returning the stolen spiritual energy.】

【Isn't this just like you eating my food, wearing my clothes, and then, when your wings are strong enough, you steal my stuff and declare independence, forming your own kingdom?】

【Five Demon Ancestors are like sheep-shearing, no wonder the cultivation world is now lacking in spiritual energy.】

【After all that, the Heavenly Dao is the poor little victim, huh?】

【I don't care about the Heavenly Dao, I just want to know if you two are really not going to do it?】

Oh, if they really dual cultivate, would the Demon Lord's Jinjiang get burned?

【It's just that Nie Yinzhi's blood in Gu Jiang's body boils, causing the Demon Lord to overheat. Strictly speaking, you should ask if Nie Yinzhi would get burned?】

【Red-hot iron rod.jpg This isn't making love, this is torture!】

【Help, please shut up! How can you drive any kind of hearse here, ah ah ah!】

“So you're still hot now, right?” Nie Yinzhi just came out of his furnace-like little garden and asked knowingly.

Gu Jiang stubbornly said, “Not hot.”

“Even if I don't kiss you now, you'll still be this hot.” Nie Yinzhi's logic was very sound, “So before you cool down, we can take the opportunity to kiss.”

Gu Jiang's eyes lit up, and he pulled Nie Yinzhi down with him, lying face up on the bed, posing as if waiting to be picked, very seriously saying, “Come on.”

Nie Yinzhi: “???” Nie Yinzhi lay on top of him, suddenly thinking of a very serious question, half-supporting herself with her arm, staring into his eyes and asking, “Why did you suddenly kiss me before? Was it because I cried so beautifully that you felt pity and couldn't help yourself, right?”

Gu Jiang swallowed hard, his gaze flickering, he mumbled an ambiguous “Mmm.”

Nie Yinzhi saw it, the Demon Lord's face was clearly written with "Is that a thing?" She glared at him angrily, pressed her index finger hard against his Adam's apple, then jumped off Gu Jiang, "Kiss my ass, you'll never get to kiss me again in your life."

She turned and walked out, “Don't come crawling into my bed tonight.” Nie Yinzhi said word by word, “Ge! Ge!”

Before closing the door, Nie Yinzhi heard Gu Jiang's suppressed laughter.

Gu Jiang heard the door of the next room open, followed by angry footsteps approaching the bed. Nie Yinzhi threw herself onto the bed, rolled around a few times, and muttered under the blanket, "Stinky Demon Lord, even craving my saliva, how perverted!"

Gu Jiang laughed enough, his hand resting on his forehead, he frowned in discomfort. He closed his eyes, sinking into his own blood moon lake, waving away the increasingly thick mist on the lake, his gaze falling on a crack about the length of a finger in the void.

Yinzhi: Was it because I cried so beautifully that you felt pity and couldn't help yourself, right?

Gu Jiang: You cried so deliciously.
