The moment Xu Feng granted citizenship to Clara and the rest, he received a system prompt, along with the mission completion.
However, what baffled him was that the reward remained unknown, almost as if the system couldn't decide on a reward yet.
'The third path is done, but the reward is pending… This is quite new.' Xu Feng wondered silently, seemingly unsure of the situation.
It was the first time he had seen or heard of a system having the reward in pending mode when a player completed their mission. Thinking back, Xu Feng also realized the vague reward system when receiving the mission. It was just a pity that he didn't think much of it and brushed past the matter. Meanwhile, Sandy thought he got distracted by something and inquired, "Is there something wrong with the conferral of citizenship?" "Oh, no," Xu Feng shook his head and then pointed at Clara. "This woman here is Clara and aside from her, you can see the rest are still somewhat traumatized by the event they experienced. I hope you can make adequate arrangements for them to slowly adapt to their new life." He requested. "That's not a problem," Sandy smiled and clapped her hands. A few seconds later, three women clad in a similar uniform as Sandy appeared as they warmly received Clara, asking them to follow. Unsure of what to do, Clara made a glance at Xu Feng, seemingly asking for his opinion. In response, Xu Feng merely smiled and nodded his head. With that signal, Clara and the rest promptly followed the three women as they exited the lobby through another passage, leaving him and Sandy alone.
Once the coast was clear, Sandy finally inquired, "Regarding the insurgency hideout, did you find out anything, Baron Lin Feng?" "Yes, the hideout that I discovered was led by a man called Rolph. According to the data, he should be a citizen of BrownBird Town." Xu Feng reported, thanking the foolish Rolph for revealing that information. "A citizen of BrownBird Town huh." Sandy knitted her brows. "I will have someone check on that later." She muttered before asking, "So did you capture that Rolph alive?" There was a glimpse of hope flashing in her eyes, almost as if she expected a live person to extract more information.
However, her glimmer seemed to die down once she heard Xu Feng's response.
"Is that so?" Sandy smiled bitterly, lowering her head. With her expectation of Xu Feng, she thought he would have captured at least one live person for them to interrogate, so it was hard to say that she wasn't disappointed by the response.
Seeing her obvious expression, Xu Feng chuckled and retrieved the documentation. "I didn't keep them alive because there was no need to." He said, handing the documentation to her.
Sandy held the documentation with a dazed look. "What's this?" "Information of the insurgency hideout locations, along with their secret place within the town, as well as each sub-leader identity." "I-Information about what?" "The insurgency and their planning." Astounded, Sandy looked at Xu Feng as if he were some sort of golden treasure. If it wasn't for her great suppression, she was afraid she might have lunged forward and given him a big hug.
How could he be so despicable in withholding such information?
She was nearly disappointed by his result, but now, she was exhilarated by his achievement.
"Oh, right, I didn't know if it was the correct thing to do, but I made some arrangements in advance without permission." Xu Feng suddenly said. "Arrangement?" Confused, Sandy raised an eyebrow. "What did you do, Baron Lin Feng?" "Nothing much, I just thought the town's guards might be overwhelmed at the moment to quench all these hideouts at once, so I arranged many adventurers to raid those hideouts." Xu Feng revealed.
And he continued, "If we just rely on the town's guards to raid them, our numbers might not be enough and it would alarm the other insurgency people to change their hideout. So I decided to have those hideouts raided simultaneously to prevent any slip-up or escape." Sandy's eyes widened, and for a moment, she stood still, processing his words. The realization of his strategic foresight sent a thrill through her. Overwhelmed with excitement, she felt her heart race and her breath quicken. Without thinking any further, she rushed forward and hugged Xu Feng tightly, her arms wrapping around him with a mix of gratitude and admiration.
"Baron Lin Feng, that's brilliant!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with excitement. "You've outdone yourself! This saves us a lot of manpower and trouble from the insurgent people escaping our clutches!"
She didn't plan on hugging him, but who would have thought Xu Feng to be such an overachiever.
Not only did he complete this tedious and troublesome mission flawlessly, but he even went above and beyond. Just how could one resist giving such a person a big, warm hug? "You're overpraising me too much, Sandy." Xu Feng chuckled lightly and stayed humble. At times like this, one needed to remain humble to gain even more favoritism. Only a fool would start laughing and praise themselves. "Oh, look at you trying to stay humble." Sandy laughed heartily, releasing her arms around him. "I will definitely relay your contribution to the Town Mayor once he returns. You should just prepare yourself in the meantime to receive a big reward." "I shall await for the big reward then." Xu Feng smiled amicably. To stay humble and when to not stay humble was something one should learn if they wished to survive in society. And right now, it was not the time to remain humble.
Being overly humble would just result in you being fake and disgusted by others. Although the mission hadn't been listed as completed yet, Xu Feng was satisfied with the rapport of Sandy. It was no longer listed as Amicable, but Friendly, which meant that she was extremely grateful and exhilarated of his accomplishment.
