Chapter 53: The Might of An Angry Doctor
"Take me as close as you can, Maui," said Damien.
They could see the Impert Snake Beast swinging its tail at Xavier from afar. However, the distance wasn't enough. They needed to get closer, enough for Damien's plan to come to fruition.
Maui was not happy with the prospect of getting too close to a thing that could squish him between her teeth.
However, when he saw the beast spitting out a mouthful of acidic venom at Xavier, he gritted his teeth and started flying towards the Impert Snake Beast.
He couldn't let those who had saved him die.
How many beastmen did he see cross this forest, in the past week? And yet no one helped him for the steads supported the transcendental beastman who stood against them.
Their prejudices had stopped them from helping him, only Damien and Xavier had listened and helped him. He couldn't possibly turn a blind eye to their sufferings.
The sound of wind carrying the furious roars of the Impert Snake Beast fluttered past them. Down and down they went and the faster Maui flew, the louder the roars of the wind blowing in Damien's ears became.
Damien narrowed his eyes as he turned to look at the screen floating right beside him. His fingers were clutching the mixture of the numbing potion as well as the anaesthesia from the human world.
"Now," he asked Dan, whose eyes had turned into two small screens which had multiple strings of codes glowing an eerie blue.
"No," replied Dan. His eyes assessed the situation in front of them as he finally concluded. "The snake is protected by its scales which makes it nearly impossible for any spell or attack to work on him."
"However, its nose and eyes are its weakest point other than the one that you found. We can't get closer to its tail with that Impert Snake Beast swinging it around."
"But if we use the spell at its nose or eyes—"
"It would penetrate?" Damien asked hopefully and Dan nodded with a grim expression. "The chances are eighty per cent," he then turned to look at Damien and said grimly, "We can only hope for the rest. But this should still give us the maximum chance at killin' that thing."
Damien tightened his hold on the vial which contained the mixture.
"Take me to the front, Maui," Damien told the stead who stiffened and looked down at him. With hesitation filling his eyes, he questioned, "Are you sure? I mean, isn't it better to attack from the back? Better wars have been won by attacking from behind."
"There is no shame in doing so."
"I know but this war needs to be won from the front," Damien said to him and Maui closed his eyes in despair. He turned left and then dodged a rocky stone that was protruding out of the ground, he swivelled around the tip which was sharper and pointed.
Once he got closer, Maui flew to the front of the Impert Snake Beast.
'You can't see its big, sharp fangs..you cannot see it. It is not there, it's not scary. You are not going to become the afternoon snack of that beast, Maui' he told himself again and again while trying to brainwash himself.
HISSS!
"The imposter is here," the Impert Snake Beast hissed at Damien as she glanced at him. "I will kill you for fooling me."
"Perfect," Damien muttered.
The Impert Snake Beast turned her back on Xavier and started slithering towards Damien. Apparently in her eyes, dealing with an imposter who supposedly insulted the memory of her beloved saviour was much more important than a furious, roaring wolf beastman.
However, this worked just fine for Damien.
"Should I attack her now?" He asked Dan who was still calculating the odds.
"No, go a bit closer ..it will give you the maximum damage," said Dan with a shake of his head.
Damien nodded and turned his head up before telling Maui, "A bit closer, Maui."
"Lord Damien, I hope you are not feeling suicidal," said Maui as he closed his eyes and then without thinking about anything else he swopped closer to the Impert Beast Snake.
Because if he were to think of anything else, he would turn around and run.
HISSSS!
"Come foolish imposter," the snake hissed as she raised her head and opened her abnormally big jaws.
The disgusting breath of that beast, which could have knocked anyone out cold and sent them to the ER came wafting over towards them.
"Oh, this thing can do good with some mouth freshener," Damien scrunched up his face. He would have loved to turn around as the serious lack of fresh air was proving fatal to him.
For a second he felt his head swoon with a wave of dizziness.
But he couldn't go down at the hands of bad breath that smelled of rotten meat, gunk and everything else that would be stored in a dump yard for more than six months or more.
"NOW!" Dan's voice snapped Damien out of his thoughts and Damien crushed the vial in his hand. The greenish liquid soaked his fingers while a bit of it trickled down on the ground several feet underneath him.
just as Damien thought that the skill had failed and so have they, he heard a voice in his head—
[Activating Spell Creation.]
[Spell Level: 1]
And that was when it happened, a swirl of green fumes started rising in the air. It twirled twice until it became a big ball of green fumes, Damien felt a tug in his abdomen and somehow everything came to him.
He raised his hand and then waved it at the Impert Beast Snake like he had used this skill many times before and had done it for ages.
BANG!
The ball of green fumes smashed against the beast, and for two seconds it remained standing. Other than shaking its big and ugly head it did nothing but then as the Impert Beast Snake opened its jaws again to attack,
It swayed.
Hisss?
"What?"
The Impert Beast Snake looked confused and surprised. Its yellow eyes raised and looked at Damien before—
THUMP.
It fell on the floor with an earth-shattering bang.
The Impert Snake beast stirred feebly but if it could break through the haze of a rather strong numbing potion that hadn't been tested along with an entire bottle of anaesthesia, Damien would have offered his head to her on his own.
"How did you? How did you do it?" Xavier shifted back to his human form and Damien looked away at once. The man was naked and Damien had no desire to stare at another man's hanging ding-ding.
"Nothing. I just used a little spell that I created," Damien answered as he took out an orb and threw it at Xavier who took it and smashed it against his body.
A puff of red smoke exploded before his bare skin was covered in a red silk shirt and black pants.
"But your beast nucleus…" Xavier began and Damien glanced at him.
He raised a brow and said, "So? Should I keep crying over spilt milk? Isn't it much better to pave my own path?"
"That's true. But without mana how can you create spells?" Xavier said to Damien who smiled at him before saying, "It's a little secret and it's not like I can use a lot of spells. This is the only one for now."
The way he spoke was as if it was not a big deal but Xavier knew better than to tell the man that he was cutting himself short.
As there had never been a mage or healer who could take down an Impert Snake Beast with one single spell.
However, he didn't tell Damien that—for he couldn't completely trust the man yet. He was too unpredictable and too impulsive. This man— he could be a bane or a blessing.
And Xavier wanted to wait until he had it cleared up.
"It is great that you brought this beast down," said Xavier with a step towards Damien who was studying the Impert Snake Beast. "But I doubt Samuel is still alive." The two of them came to this forest together because of Samuel but if he could not bring this down alone..there was no way Samuel could have done that.
"Oh he is alive," Damien stopped around the underside of the Impert Snake Beast. "It is just that he might not be in a good condition and if we don't save him now then he would soon become a mush of bones and flesh."
His eyes were staring at the seventh stomach of Impert Snake Beast inside which was a man curled up in a vulnerable position.
** *** **
Good thing he brought a wolf beastman along because he hadn't seen anything sharper than the claws of a wolf beastman.
And those claws came in handy in many cases. Chopping vegetables, enemies? Just hand it to them, man. They would fillet it finely.
Earlier Xavier couldn't bring much damage to the Impert Snake Beast as he was attacking all over the place without getting a clear shot at one region.
But with the Impert Snake Beast lying on the grounds, unmoving Xavier pierced through her thick layer of scales.
Blood dripped down the lower region of the Impert Snake Beast as Damien watched Xavier cut through the second layer.
"Hang on," just as Xavier tore the third layer, Damien spoke up.
