After divorcing my celebrity wife, I became the world's richest person

Chapter 390 Uninhabited Area

"Hey, we've got some tough ones here today. Looks like I need to teach you the rules of this place,"

The landlady's gaze suddenly sharpened as the rooms next to her opened one after another.

The next moment, more than a dozen monkeys charged out, heading straight for those burly men.

These monkeys seemed to have undergone some special training; their fur was shaved off, and they were dressed in armor.

Sharp metal fittings were also attached to their claws.

The men had never seen such a spectacle before; within moments, three of them were torn to shreds, and the rest quickly put down their weapons and knelt on the ground.

"Landlady, we mean no harm. We only want to take Victor away, and we hope you can accommodate us,"

Chen Yu's pupils dilated dramatically, and he immediately had the system scan the old man on the ground.

However, the information that came back showed that this man was not Victor William at all.

Chen Yu breathed a sigh of relief and didn't pay much attention to it, reasoning that there were more than one person named Victor in this world.

The landlady didn't care about that; she ordered the monkeys to control the remaining men and had her staff collect all the weapons.

"No one in my tavern is allowed to fight. That's the rule. You lot have broken the rules here, so you will have to accept punishment,"

As she finished speaking, the staff promptly threw them out.

Tonight, likely not a single household in town would dare to take them in.

The desert night is terribly frightening; the low temperature alone is unbearable.

By morning, those men were likely to freeze into icicles.

Chen Yu ate his mutton and went downstairs, heading towards the old man.

At that moment, the old man was gradually regaining consciousness. Seeing Chen Yu, he became so excited that he tried to kowtow despite his injuries.

Chen Yu quickly held the old man up, "Your body is very weak; you need to rest properly."

"By the way, they called you Victor just now. May I ask what your surname is?"

The old man caught his breath, "Bog!"

Chen Yu nodded and didn't ask any further. But as he was about to leave, the old man suddenly grabbed his arm.

"I have a friend who shares my name, he is the head of William's family, and he's currently trapped in Dongming Canyon. Can you help me save him? Even just passing a message outside would be good."

Chen Yu's eyes widened; he knew that people from William's family had also arrived here, but he hadn't expected Victor to come in person.

However, upon reflection, Victor was already an old man close to death. Even if he had rejuvenated by more than a decade under Chen Yu's treatment, it was not a cure.

With the elixir of eternal life before him, how could he not be tempted?

Chen Yu didn't say much, just nodded and returned to his room.

Jin Lingsu was getting impatient, "You running up and down like this, are you trying to fight your own body? Can't you rest properly?"

Chen Yu leaned back in his chair, "How could I possibly sleep in such a place? With all sorts of forces mingling, who knows if these people have a grudge against me."

Jin Lingsu didn't say much more and had the waiter bring in two more basins of meat.

The next morning, the seemingly peaceful town suddenly became busy. Who knows from where, but a large group of people appeared, setting off in their off-road vehicles in a grand manner.

Chen Yu and Jin Lingsu didn't fall behind. After a quick pack-up, they left the town.

Their car didn't carry much food, just some emergency items and compressed rations.

The others seemed to wish they could fill their cars to the brim.

Some teams had a majestic convoy of more than a dozen vehicles, with just one person driving each, all loaded with supplies.

Jin Lingsu's face was full of contempt.

"These guys obviously have never been to the desert before. They're packing so much stuff that they're definitely going to sink when they cross that sand sea," she scoffed.

Chen Yu didn't say anything, but just smiled, resting his chin in his hand as he looked out the window at the scenery.

Two hundred miles to the west from here lay the legendary uninhabited area.

This place is a holy site in the hearts of many explorers, who spend their whole lives dreaming of crossing it alone with just a pack.

Though their aspirations were grand, reality was harsh; to date, very few had managed to successfully traverse it.

A major feature of the uninhabited area was its unpredictable terrain.

Quicksand was one of the most significant geographical obstacles.

Along the way, the vehicle carrying Chen Yu and Jin Lingsu seemed quite steady, and it wasn't long before they entered the uninhabited zone.

But as soon as they arrived, they saw a mass of vehicles stuck in a very narrow area.

Many people were seated around the vehicles, watching their slowly sinking cars with nothing they could do.

As Chen Yu's vehicle passed by, a few people tried to stop them, seemingly warning that there was quicksand ahead and it was impassable.

Jin Lingsu simply ignored them, pressing the gas pedal and charging ahead.

Their vehicle wasn't heavily loaded, which made it particularly light and unaffected by the quicksand.

Chen Yu finally understood Jin Lingsu's reasoning.

Who knows how much time passed before the two reached a hill and decided to stop there—it also seemed safe.

They parked their vehicle to the side, and then began to build a simple campsite on its foundation.

Just as the two had started a fire and were preparing to roast some meat, several other vehicles arrived, moving sporadically to the same location.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

They had clearly come under attack on the way, with the windows of their cars covered in wolf claw prints.

"Oh my God, this no-man's-land is too terrifying. We actually encountered a pack of wolves on the way. If our family hadn't accessorized our car with bulletproof glass, I'm afraid we would have been done for," they complained as they walked over.

"Bro, can we join you and build a campsite together?"

Chen Yu and his companion had already started a good fire, and many of the basic campsite conditions were in place.

These people wanted to mooch off of their efforts.

Chen Yu looked at them warily and scanned their brain information through the system, wanting to ensure they had no ill intentions before he was prepared to agree.

But Jin Lingsu didn't care; she simply tossed a piece of charcoal with flames to one side.

"Use this to start your fire, but don't get too close to us," she said.

The atmosphere turned somewhat awkward, and the people didn't say much more, just picking up the charcoal and moving to an open area a bit away.

Chen Yu took out a map and studied it carefully; according to their current pace, it would take at least one more day to reach Dongming Canyon.

The supplies they had in the car would only last them half a day.

That meant they couldn't afford any accidents along the way.

As Chen Yu was studying the map, a man in his twenties came over, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Big brother, big sister, we're running low on supplies. Could we possibly borrow some from you?" he asked.
